Wolfs
My opinion :
There are many
stories about
the wolf.
And very many of
them describe
the wolf as
a evil and a
unreliable
creature. Why ?
Is it because it
maybe has
killed people ?
The wolf aren't
more dangerous
than another
predator.
A wolf rarely
kills one of its
own species.
In a fight the
wolf that is
inferior, leaves
the fight.
Therefor - in my
opinion - the
wolf are a
survivor.
At this pages
I've gather some
facts about the
wolf.
How they live
and behave.
To my help I've
had information
from people
who know a lot
about wolfs.
I've also read
some books and
the web
to find out how
they live.
If You wish to
know more, there
are
a lots of
webpages around
the web that is
about the wolf.
The translation
is my own. And
I've tried to
translate as
easy as
possible,
so that everyone
can read and
understand it.
Number of the
Wolf
:
The wolf is to
be find in almost the whole
world.
Most of them in
North America -
about 60.000.
There are also a
lot of wolfs in
Russia -
around 45.000
individuals.
Some people say
that there are
about 150.000
and 200.000
Wolfs in the
whole world.
And that isn't
near the number
of wolfs
that exist in
the 1700 - 1800
centuries.
Some History
about Wolfs in
Sweden :
The Wolf was one
of the first
species that has
arrived to
Sweden after the
ice age.
During the 1700
and 1800 there
was wolfs
in our whole
country.
In the early
1800 there was
about 500
wolfs
that was killed
annually.
Since the middle
of 1800 the
number of wolfs
has been reduced.
People hunt the
wolf because it
killed the
cattle.
Some people also
believed that
the wolf
was unite with
the devil
himself.
Therefor a wolf was
seen as a evil
creature.
Here in Sweden
the wolf become
protected from 1966.
At this time
there was only
round 10 wolfs
left.
Not until the
beginning of
1970 there was a
distinction
among the number
of wolfs.
The research
teams noticed
that
the number of
wolfs was
increasing.
And in 1980
there was a
little tribe of
wolfs
that was living
here in Sweden.
Nowadays they
guess that the
number of wolfs
here in Sweden
are around 120
individuals.
Many of them has
immigrate from
Norway and
Finland
Wolf
pack:
The wolf is a social
animal.
They communicate with
their own language,
similarly to the dog.
They use a very clear body
language,
and they use sounds and
the odour from each other,
to decide who is friendly
and who is an enemy.
They also use sounds and
the smell to mark their territory.
The howl of a wolf is a
way of communication
with other wolfs.
This sound You might hear
miles around.
Similar to the dog, the
wolf use a bark to warn,
and when they growl they
are angry.
At the same time the wolf
use sounds,
they have a very clear
bodylanguage.
For example one don't go
near a growling dog,
if it use a angry
bodylanguage in the same time, do You ?
Wolfs licking each other
is a way of saying "hi"
to a arriving member of
the wolf pack.
To smell each other is a
way of saying "welcome home"
and also to find out where
the member has bin and
if the family member has
something new to tell the
others in the pack.
If the arriving wolf is a
new wolf that they never met,
they want to find out if
it's a enemy or a friend.
Food :
The main food for a wolf
is wild animals.
That contain everything
from mices to sometime
as big animal as a moose.
Sometimes they also hunt
down herd cattle such
as sheeps and reindeers.
If there is plenty of
food, a wollf can eat
as much as 10 kg meat in
one day.
Breed:
In a wolf pack it is only
the alfa female and the alfa male
that mate and get puppies.
They mate in springtime
(here in Sweden february - march)
and she give birth to
their puppies two months later.
The alfa female is
pregnant in about 63 days.
She give birth to 4 - 6
puppies (most common),
but there could be as much
as 10 puppies in one litter.
