Advent

Adventsfasting and time of tranquility

About a 1000 years ago Christianity arrived to the Nordic Countries. Kristendomen till Norden.

then the Advent was introduced as a time of waiting festival.

This because Advent are ment to be a time of serenity and the beginning of a new year in the church.

With this time of serenity there was also a introducing of a Advent fast.

This was ment to be a preparing of Christmas near in hand and the birth of Jesus.

It was a time of  serenity and temperance while waiting for the biggest holiday of all - Christmas.

During this fast it wasn't allowed to eat meat.

One should also avoid to celebrate something or have a party.

The Advent Sunday are sometime between the 27th of November and the 3rd of December.

The word Advent are from the latin word Adventus, that meens waiting.

When You go to the church during this time, You're reminded about this time of waiting,

because the priest always have a purple attire on.

There are also hymns reminding of the waiting for Jesus.

Nowadays it's more like that the people expect something to happened at Christmas.

But the thing they have in mind is to buy Christmasgifts, send Christmas cards,

bake, make a lot of food and shop a lot.

It all started at the Advent Sunday and then it accelaerate in

higher speed until the day before Christmas around 13.00.

That's when the shop is closing up for the holiday.

When I think of all this it cross my mind - Where are the tranquility ? And the serenity ?

I also enjoy buying and wrapping Christmasgifts and hide them so that nobody,

except me, now where to find them.

I also enjoy baking and making Christmas food.

I also want to make some Christmaspottering with my family.

BUT I try to have it all ready to the 2 of Advent, just because I want to

sit down a while and feel the tranquility and the expectation of the Christmas.
